چکیده

healthy 58-year-old woman had undergone arthrosopy of both temporomandibular joints because of ilateral mandibular clicks and recurrent episodes of aw block that did not respond to nonsurgical treatent. The preoperative examination showed general estriction of mandibular motility (maximal oral aperure 26 mm, right and left lateral deviation 11 and 8 m, respectively, protrusion 10 mm, and dental eroion without significant muscular contractures). Magetic resonance imaging demonstrated bilateral anteior disc displacement with reduction and restricted otility of the right condyle (Fig 1). Uneventful arthroscopy of both joints was perormed under general anesthesia, after conventional asotracheal intubation. The head was placed in a donut,” in a natural position, not overextended, with mild tilt. The double puncture technique was used first, 4 mL of a mixture of lidocaine and adrenaline as injected into the superior joint space using a 3-gauge needle, followed by continuous perfusion of actated Ringer’s solution). Parapharangeal edema: an uncommon complication of TMJ arthroscopy

Ohnishi in 1975 first described temporomandibular joint (TMJ) arthroscopy. Along with its extensive use, a range of complications has emerged. We describe a patient who experienced parapharyngeal swelling after undergoing arthroscopy. Prolonged intubation up to 1 hour postoperatively was required. The swelling resolved completely over 6 h without further intervention.

Temporomandibular Joint Arthroscopy

Arthroscopy is a technique for direct visual inspection of internal joint structures, including biopsy and other surgical procedures performed under visual control. In 1918 Takagi first described arthroscopy of the knee joint examinations using cystoscope (Tag, 1939). Onishi in 1970 was the first to report arthroscopy of the human temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and the first results were publish...

Contralateral deep venous thrombosis after hip arthroscopy.

Since the 1980s, hip arthroscopy has become an accepted treatment modality for a variety of hip conditions. It is generally considered a low-risk procedure with a low rate of complications. The risk of developing a deep venous thrombosis (DVT) or venous thromboembolism following these procedures is also thought to be low, and most patients undergoing these procedures receive no pharmacologic pr...

Tracheal Compression during Prolonged Shoulder Arthroscopy Surgery under General Anesthesia

Several earlier reports have described life – threatening airway obstruction during arthroscopic shoulder surgery performed under regional anesthesia, caused by the leakage of irrigation fluid out of the shoulder joint space into the surrounding soft tissues, neck, pharynx and upper airway. Here, we present the case of a 32yearold male in whom the use of general anesthesia with endotracheal int...

Temporomandibular Joint Arthroscopy versus Arthrotomy

Although some patients with temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders are successfully treated by nonsurgical means or by arthrocentesis or arthroscopic surgery, there is still a group of patients who do not respond to these procedures and for whom an arthrotomy and disc surgery (discoplasty) are necessary. Arthroscopy is an important diagnostic and therapeutic modality in the treatment of TMJ di...
